Background of the study
Community-based organizations (CBOs) have increasingly become influential actors in fostering grassroots political mobilization. In the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area, these organizations serve as intermediaries between citizens and political structures, enhancing civic participation and local governance. Through advocacy, voter education, and community engagement programs, CBOs help bridge the gap between government policies and local needs (Ibrahim, 2023). Their grassroots activities have led to increased voter awareness, community solidarity, and a more informed electorate. Moreover, CBOs facilitate dialogue among diverse groups, promoting inclusive political processes and reducing social marginalization (Adesola, 2024). However, challenges such as limited resources and political interference can affect their efficacy (Afolabi, 2023). This study examines the critical role of CBOs in mobilizing political participation and influencing electoral outcomes, highlighting their potential to drive democratic change in local settings. The research emphasizes the need for strategic support and capacity building for CBOs to effectively contribute to grassroots mobilization efforts.

Statement of the problem
Despite the significant role of community-based organizations in fostering grassroots mobilization, challenges persist in the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area. Limited resources, political interference, and insufficient institutional support hinder the ability of CBOs to fully engage communities in the political process (Adeleke, 2023). This shortfall results in suboptimal voter participation and reduced effectiveness of grassroots mobilization efforts. Furthermore, there is a dearth of empirical studies that critically assess the operational challenges faced by CBOs in this context. Consequently, there is a pressing need to investigate and address these issues to enhance the role of CBOs in local governance.

Objectives of the study:

  1. To evaluate the role of community-based organizations in grassroots political mobilization.
  2. To examine the impact of CBO activities on voter engagement and participation.
  3. To identify challenges and propose strategies for enhancing CBO effectiveness.

Research questions:

  1. What role do community-based organizations play in grassroots mobilization?
  2. How do CBO activities influence voter engagement in the study area?
  3. What challenges do CBOs face in mobilizing local communities?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. H1: Community-based organizations significantly improve grassroots political mobilization.
  2. H2: Active CBO engagement leads to increased voter participation.
  3. H3: Resource constraints and political interference negatively affect CBO performance.

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it provides insights into the role of community-based organizations in enhancing grassroots political mobilization. The findings will inform local government and policymakers on strategies to strengthen CBO contributions to democratic processes, thereby promoting greater civic engagement and political accountability in the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area (Olatunji, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to exploring the role of community-based organizations in grassroots political mobilization within the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area. It focuses solely on CBO activities and their direct impact on local political engagement.

Definitions of terms:
• Community-Based Organizations: Local groups formed to address community-specific issues and promote civic participation.
• Grassroots Political Mobilization: The process of rallying community members to participate in political activities.
• Civic Engagement: Active participation of citizens in political and community affairs.
